Teachers of Masaka Diocese made a pilgrimage to Kitovu cathedral

Teachers of Primary and Secondary Schools made their pilgrimage to Kitovu Cathedral last Saturday on 5th November 2016 to receive indulgences of the Holy year of mercy. Hundreds and hundreds turned up to seek for God’s mercy.

Mass was presided over by Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kaggwa, Bishop of Masaka Diocese. In his homily he reminded them that it was right to seek for God’s mercy for there might have been moments they have failed to fulfill their duties as expected of them.

Bishop Kaggwa reminded teachers of what it means to be a teacher:

  • A teacher has to be a lamp stand from whom students draw their light for the future.

  • A teacher has to read extensively in order to be updated with the challenges and the signs of the time and direct the students accordingly.

  • A teacher has to be a good one that inspires his or her students by his way of living, because actions speak better than words.

  • A teacher has to be committee to his duty.

  • A teacher should love his or her school.

  • A teacher should act according to the interest of his bosses: School Management Committee, Board of Governors, foundation Body, Head teacher, ministry for education etc.

  • A teacher shouldn’t aim at academic excellence of students only but for integral development of students.

Bishop thanked teachers for their great contribution to the Diocese and nation at large for educating students the leaders and good citizens of tomorrow.

Rev. Fr. Paul Ntambaazi who conducted a brief retreat for them invited teachers to make God number one in their lives in order to execute their duties diligently. He challenged them to work hard and save some money for their future.

The chief guest; the Woman Member of Parliament for Masaka District Hon. Maria Babirye Kabanda who is a teacher herself, requested teachers to be role models of their students. She called upon teachers to allow cooperation among themselves of their different schools such that there is success for all.

This occasion was attended too by the Chairman LCV of Masaka District Mr. Jude Mbabaali.
